Clinical Trials Day honors clinical research professionals by recognizing their contributions to public health and medical progress. UNC Lineberger faculty and staff celebrated the day by sharing photos on social media.
Clinical Trials Day is celebrated across the globe each May to commemorate the day that James Lind, a Scottish naval surgeon, conducted what is considered to be the first randomized clinical trial aboard a ship on May 20, 1747.
Lind recruited 12 men diagnosed with scurvy to test out six possible treatment methods. The medical pioneer discovered that sailors who were given citrus fruits to eat showed the most positive results.
Today, Clinical Trials Day helps raise awareness about clinical trials and honors clinical research professionals by recognizing their outstanding contributions to public health and medical progress.
At UNC Lineberger, we salute all of the professionals and participants who help make our cutting-edge clinical research possible.
