The Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina (LCINC), the state’s leading non-profit organization supporting lung cancer research and education, is proud to welcome Dr. Jared Weiss, medical oncologist with UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Thoracic Oncology Program, to serve on the board of directors.
“Dr. Weiss joins us at an exciting time of growth for our organization. He joins our existing team of leading healthcare providers across the state, survivors and other lung cancer advocates. With this type of core expertise on our Board, we can continue truly making a difference for everyone impacted by this disease,” says Amy Cipau, president of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Jared Weiss is an assistant professor of medicine for hematology/oncology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC. He received his B.S. in neuroscience at Brown University in Providence, RI; his Doctor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT; his residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA; and his fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He has volunteered with the Lung Cancer Initiative for the past three years, specifically with their AccessTLC program, which aims to educate primary care providers in order to reduce the delay between time of diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.
“Over the past few years, this organization has been an incredible ally in the fight against lung cancer by raising large amounts of money for basic science research. The Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina is now increasingly focused on direct action to reduce the burden of suffering from lung cancer with projects aimed at reducing delays in diagnosis, educating community physicians about lung cancer, and improving access to care for poorer patients. I have been proud to be a small part of this impressive effort and look forward to increasing my involvement as a board member,” says Dr. Weiss about joining the board.
