The American Association for the Advancement of Science has awarded three UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center members the distinction of AAAS 2012 Fellow. The three were among four UNC School of Medicine Faculty honored.
In a statement released on Nov. 29, 2012, the association says the election as AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon its members by their peers because of their efforts at advancing science applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished.
The Lineberger members honored include:
Robert Duronio, PhD, “For distinguished contributions to the field of developmental genetics, particularly pertaining to cell cycle regulation, and for service in graduate education in the biomedical sciences.” Duronio is assistant dean for research in the medical school, professor of biology and genetics, and also directs the Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology PhD program and the Program in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at UNC.
Lishan Su, PhD, “For distinguished contributions to the field of HIV immune pathogenesis, particularly for modeling persistent infection, immunopathogenesis and therapy by HIV and HCV in immunized mice.” He is professor in the department of microbiology and immunology.
Kevin Weeks, PhD, “For distinguished contributions to the development of technology predicting the structures of RNAs and for their application of this technology to problems of biological importance.” The Kenan Distinguished Professor of Chemistry is also a faculty member in the Program in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the School of Medicine.
