UNC Lineberger's Lisa Carey, MD, was elected to ASCO Board of Directors

The American Society of Clinical Oncology has elected UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Lisa A. Carey, MD, FASCO, to its Board of Directors. She will begin her four-year term during ASCO’s annual meeting in June 2020.

Carey is the Richardson and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer Distinguished Professor in Breast Cancer Research at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the deputy director of Clinical Sciences at UNC Lineberger.

“It is a true privilege to be elected to ASCO’s Board of Directors and to be representing my fellow oncologists, cancer professionals, and all who are affected by cancer,” said Carey.

“ASCO has an important role in advancing cancer research, education, care and policies that improve the lives of people with cancer and their loved ones, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help the society carry out its lifesaving mission.”

Carey is a member of ASCO’s Breast Cancer Guideline Advisory Group. She previously served the society as chair of the Nominating Committee, chair of the Professional Development Committee, track leader of the annual meeting Education Committee, and a member of the Journal of Clinical Oncology editorial board.
