A group of twelve people at the awards ceremony honoring Barbara Rimer.Barbara K. Rimer, DrPH, MPH, has received the highest honor bestowed by Carolina Alumni, the Distinguished Service Medal, for her commitment to excellence as a researcher, dean, leader and dedicated UNC faculty member.

Rimer is the longest-serving dean of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. After 17 years as dean, and even longer as Alumni Distinguished Professor of health behavior, she retired with emerita status in 2022.

Rimer was also a member of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and was the cancer center’s deputy director for population sciences from 2003-05.
