UNC Lineberger’s Alexander Kabanov, PhD, DSc.

Alexander V. Kabanov, PhD, DSc, the Mescal Swain Ferguson Distinguished Professor at the Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery at UNC and UNC Lineberger member, has been invested as a member of the American Academy of Sciences and Letters in recognition of outstanding scholarly achievement.

Kabanov, a leading figure in nanomedicine and drug delivery research, was honored during a ceremony at the historic Decatur House in Washington, D.C. The investiture was conducted by Academy President Donald W. Landry, interim president of the University of Florida, and Academy Board Chair Sanjeev R. Kulkarni of Princeton University.

Kabanov is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of Academia Europaea. His career includes a National Science Foundation Career Award and the Lenin Komsomol Prize. His pioneering research on block copolymers, polymeric micelles, polyion complexes and nanogels has shaped modern approaches to delivering small-molecule drugs, nucleic acids and proteins.

The Academy promotes scholarship across disciplines and supports the exchange of ideas through public programming, scholarly forums and initiatives that elevate work in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.
