The national Pink Heals Tour visited UNC on Friday, September 20 with a fleet of pink fire trucks, a bus and emergency vehicles. Chapel Hill Fire Department, the host for the visit, brought their Carolina Blue fire truck.

Pink Heals is an international volunteer group whose mission is “to help people battling cancer with a focus on women and what they mean to us in our daily lives.”

Patients and families enjoyed visits with the volunteer fire fighters from across the US. Cancer survivors and family members were invited to sign the vehicles with messages of hope and love. After their visit to the N.C. Cancer and Children’s Hospitals, the team held a parade on Franklin Street and finished their day at University Mall.

The Chapel Hill Fire Department has supported UNC Lineberger for three years with fundraising events.

Jennifer Bowman, UNC Lineberger special events coordinator said, “We greatly appreciate the Pink Heals Tour visit and their goal of raising cancer awareness. Our patients and families had a wonderful time talking with Chapel Hill and Pink Heals fire fighters. Special thanks to Chief Dan Jones and Captain Byron Greeson for their help with making the event happen. We look forward to working with them again on October 26 at Kenan Stadium when the Chapel Hill Fire Department holds a ‘Fill the Boot’ drive at the UNC vs. Boston College football game.”
