Finding what you need at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center just got easier.

The new UNC Lineberger intranet is now live — a one-stop hub designed to help faculty and staff quickly access the information, tools and resources they need.

A project that has been years in the making, the intranet brought together various teams at UNC Lineberger to create and organize content to support research and administrative functions of the center.

“We’ve been working on this current iteration since the summer of 2024, although conceptually, the intranet has been in the works at least seven years,” said Susie Smith, program director of data curation and analytics at UNC Lineberger. The intranet is managed by Smith along with Chesley Kalnen, web content manager, and Jason Piper, employee engagement coordinator.

The new intranet was created in partnership with the MaTRIC (Managing Teams, Research, and Integrated Coordination) team, reflecting a shared vision to improve connectivity and to streamline efforts across the cancer center. MaTRIC is an initiative launched in 2022 to enhance population science research productivity, particularly among early-stage investigators.

More than 20 people spent nine months compiling (and often creating from scratch) around 100 resources to get the intranet started.

“Lineberger’s intranet is really going to boost research productivity at the center. We all want it. We all need it,” said Barbara Martin, DrPH, MPH, assistant director of community outreach and engagement.

Within the newly-launched intranet, you’ll find:

  • Research operations resources
  • Staff directory of business units that report to the Associate Director of Administration
  • Information and links to resources, such as policies and guidelines, shared services and onboarding materials

Resources and content will continue to be added, and there is a workflow to keep these resources up to date.

“Disseminating consistent communication can be a challenge, and the intranet provides a single ‘source of truth,’” Smith added. “This project is in alignment with the center’s initiative for organizational excellence by highlighting central support and communication offered by several of our business units and working groups.”

Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center — one click at a time.
