Researchers affiliated with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center have been named to the 2025 Highly Cited Researchers™ list by Clarivate, a global analytics firm.
The Clarivate list recognizes scientists whose publications rank in the top 1% worldwide for citations in their field and publication year, based on data from the Web of Science over the past 11 years.
For the cancer center, having Lineberger-affiliated researchers honored in this elite group helps reinforce the center’s national and global influence, not only in clinical care but in foundational scientific discovery.
Beyond prestige, the award reflects sustained scholarly productivity: Clarivate reports 7,131 Highly Cited Researcher awards in 2025 globally. Each honoree has authored multiple papers that consistently shape their field.
As Clarivate noted, the United States leads globally with 2,670 of those awards — roughly 37 % of the total — underscoring the continued prominence of U.S. research institutions and universities in driving scientific progress.
For UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Lineberger, this latest list is both a recognition and a call to continue fostering collaborative, high-impact research, work that has the potential to advance cancer science, improve patient outcomes, and influence global health.
