Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are designed to estimate the average treatment effect within a population of individuals that are eligible, invited, and agree to enroll. However, this population does not often correspond to the target population of individuals that will be eligible to receive the treatment in clinical practice. Dr. Lund’s research group and collaborators are working to improve what we can learn from RCTs by extending their findings to target populations that are contemporary, generalizable, and thus relevant to clinical practice and policymaking. In this talk, Dr. Lund will provide an overview of the efficacy-effectiveness gap and discuss our approach and findings when extending RCT evidence to target populations at two distinct points along the cancer control continuum.
The Cancer Outcomes Research Program Breakfast Seminar Series is organized by Drs. Ethan Basch and Stephanie Wheeler. Please arrive at 7:45am to join us for a hot breakfast buffet prior to the start of our 8:00am meeting. Parking is available at the Rams Head parking deck next door – we will gather information prior to the semester start to distribute parking QR codes. We can also validate parking individually so parking is free.
