Darren DeWalt, MD, MPH is a general internist and health services researcher. His research focuses on four areas: 1) health literacy related intervention research; 2) quality improvement in health care systems; 3) developing, testing, and using patient reported outcomes; and 4) alternative payment models. He continues to do research on new models of care delivery and has ongoing collaborations to develop specialty based alternative payment models, including oncology. He is also the director of the UNC Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement.
