Education

  • PhD, Loyola University Chicago
  • BA, Augustana College

Malini Bommiasamy obtained her BA from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and her PhD from Loyola University in Chicago, IL. Malini’s thesis work focused on exploring the unfolded protein response (UPR), a complex intracellular signaling pathway activated upon increased demands on the protein folding capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and its’ ability to modulate lipid biosynthesis, ER biogenesis and the capacity of the secretory pathway. Malini’s postdoctoral work under the mentoring of Dr. Jonathan Serody at UNC-Chapel Hill focused on Th17 plasticity during acute graft versus host disease (GvHD) as well as elucidating factors that contribute to skin GvHD.

Malini transitioned from being a postdoctoral research associate to the lab manager, and she currently oversees the operations of the laboratory and assists lab members by working on a variety of research projects.

In her downtime, Malini enjoys volunteering and hiking with her dog.
