Andrew Olshan, PhD, will serve as one of the Co-PIs for UNC TREND. He brings a wealth of experience to meet the UNC TREND goals and to co-lead Project 1 and the Administrative Core.

Olshan is known internationally as a leading cancer epidemiologist, and for his leadership of NC population studies of head and neck and of breast cancer. He is an accomplished mentor, and an experienced administrator.

Olshan is Associate Director for Population Sciences at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, overseeing the Cancer Epidemiology and the Cancer Prevention and Control Programs. He directs the UNC Lineberger Rapid Case Ascertainment core and previously led the Biospecimen Processing Core. He was Chair of the Department of Epidemiology in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health from 2006 to early 2018. He previously directed the NCI-funded Cancer Epidemiology Training Program and co-directed the Komen Foundation-UNC training program in breast cancer disparities, and co-directs the UNC Reproductive, Perinatal, and Pediatric Epidemiology training program. At the national level, Olshan was recently the President of the Society for Epidemiologic Research, the oldest and largest general epidemiology society in the US.
