New Practices to Join the Telehealth Lecture Series

by Mary E. King, Operational Coordinator

Continuing Medical Education (CME) supports physicians being continuous learners, and improving their practices and the care of their patients. In an effort to efficiently make valuable CME available to the UNC Physicians Network (UNCPN), a new telemedicine system is being introduced in practices across the UNCPN network. Eleven practices in the Triangle will serve as “pilots”, and beginning in October 2016 these practices will join the UNC Cancer Network Telehealth Lecture Series (unccn.org). We are excited that our series is one of the first lectures the physicians, advanced practitioners and nurses will participate in to learn what is important for primary care and specialty physicians in the community to know about cancer care..

Advocating for Your Patients

by Jean Sellers, RN, MSN, Administrative Clinical Director, LCCC

Oncology Nurse Navigators witness each and every day the challenges and obstacles that their patients and caregivers face when fighting a diagnosis of cancer. These challenges are compounded when patients present with limited or no financial resources, physical and mental disabilities, low health care literacy, living alone and/or living in rural settings. This is where advocacy begins. And this is why it’s important that oncology nurses understand advocacy and their role in it. Please see link below for more information.

UNCCN 2016 Community Survey Results Are In!

by Alan Brown, Continuing Education Specialist

Thank you to the UNCCN Community members who responded to the 2016 Community Survey. The results are in, and we are using the information gathered for planning or 2017 programs. The survey was open from August 11 through September 9 and we had a total of 69 responses. Over 80% of the respondents reported they participate in our lectures each month or every few months and attendance at each of our three lecture series was equally represented.

Over 85% of respondents indicated a desire to have the ability to watch archived recordings of our live lectures and receive continuing education credit. We are working diligently to make this a reality at the start of 2017. The quantity and quality of the recommendations provided for lecture topics and presenters was excellent. This feedback is currently being used by our committee as we plan for our 2017 lectures.

Your continued participation and engagement in our programs is greatly appreciated!
