From the Director of Telehealth

by Tim Poe

Please let me begin by giving a big shout out to the over one hundred of you who participated in our 2019 Lecture Planning Survey. I can’t tell you how grateful we are for the valuable feedback that you provided. We will combine this with input from lecture evaluations, NC cancer statistics, and other considerations in planning for an outstanding 2019 telehealth lecture lineup. Please look for the 2019 lecture schedule in our December newsletter and on our site.

We are very pleased to be starting the third year of our NC Community College Lecture Series, in coordination with the North Carolina Community College System. We will open with Caring for the Patient with Colorectal Cancer with Tammy Triglionos ANP, AOCNP on Monday, October 15th at 10:00 AM. While lectures in this series are targeted towards community college students in health-related fields, all are welcome to attend. Recorded lectures are added to our Learning Portal, and certificates of attendance are available for those successfully completing the assessment. Please visit https://unclineberger.org/unclcn/events/nc-community-college-lectures for details on all our upcoming community college lectures.

Please help us spread the word that we will begin offering free ACPE (pharmacy) credit for many of our lectures, beginning with Understanding and Treating Anxiety & Depression in Patients and Families with Cancer on November 28th at noon. Please see Jon’s article for details. We hope that you will help us spread the word to any of your colleagues needing ACPE credit. Details on upcoming telehealth lectures are at: https://unclineberger.org/unclcn/events/telehealth-lectures

There is still space available at the 10th Annual Coping with Cancer Conference: Cancer Pain Management During the Opioid Epidemic on Saturday, October 27th. Please see the dedicated article for details.

Finally, I hope that you will join us this Wednesday at noon for our free RN and Allied Health Lecture – Understanding Oncology Drug Interactions with Katherine Morgan, PharmD, BCOP, CPP. Survivorship Care Planning at the End of Adjuvant Treatment
https://learn.unccn.org/online-course-catalog/rn-and-allied-health-courses/
Survivorship is defined as one who remains alive and continues to function during and after overcoming a serious hardship or life-threatening disease. In cancer, a person is considered to be a survivor from the time of diagnosis until the end of life. This session will review the definition and attributes of being a survivor, what we know about survivors and their needs throughout their cancer journey. Survivorship care planning implications to meet these needs will be described and discussed.
