Audience

This continuing education course is designed for physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals in family medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, emergency medicine, oncology, pulmonary, nephrology, geriatrics, neurology, palliative care, psychology, pharmacy, social work, pastoral care and hospice. We also welcome fellows, pre-med and nursing students.

Objectives 

  • Review advance care planning (ACP) in the clinician- patient relationship.
  • Discuss barriers in communication when having ACP conversations.
  • Describe the role of the primary care provider, medical oncologist, pharmacist and palliative care provider in caring for patients facing serious and terminal illness.
  • Identify strategies to address the opioid crisis in palliative care treatment.
