Zoom at Lineberger

Dear Zoom Users Associated with Lineberger,
Earlier today, UNC became aware of a concern related to Zoom account holders who use Mac computers. The issue involves the ability of a remote party to invite a Zoom user to a meeting and access the user’s camera. In order to address this concern immediately, I am asking that you please upgrade your Zoom application (in the event that you have downloaded the Zoom application).
Zoom will typically prompt you to upgrade the application, if an update is available. Please open the Zoom app, and follow the instructions to update, if prompted. You can also go to “Look for Updates” which may be found under “zoom.us” on the upper-left portion of your screen when the Zoom app is open. As of today, you should be running at least Version 4.4…. of Zoom. A new, and even more secure update should be available in the days ahead.
For details on downloading the Zoom app, please see:
For updates on the status of Zoom from Lineberger, please see:
As an additional precaution, I have updated settings for all Lineberger Zoom users. For the foreseeable future, when you or an invitee joins a Zoom meeting, the camera will be off by default. You can simply use the Zoom controls to turn the camera on. This will ensure that no Lineberger Zoom user can have a meeting started with the camera on, effective immediately. That said, you may always choose to turn the camera on, once the meeting has begun.
I am including the Lineberger IT Support team at: firstname.lastname@example.org and the SOM Classroom Support Team at email@example.com in this email. You may reach out to either of these groups, or to the UNC Cancer Network at firstname.lastname@example.org (phone 919-445-1000). Please feel free to contact any of us with your questions or concerns.
