Presenter: Stephen Kimani, MD, MSc
Title: Cancer-related Stigma in Malawi
Stephen Kimani, MD, MSc, will discuss the lived experiences of cancer survivors in Malawi. Using existing studies, I will describe what we have learned about cancer-related stigma to highlight the opportunities to advance patient-centered research in Malawi.
Short Bio: Dr. Stephen Kimani is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a medical oncologist focused on managing breast cancer. He completed medical school at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Before relocating to the USA for further training, He served as a medical officer in the Kenyan Ministry of Health. He completed a Master of Science in Global Health and Internal Medicine residency at Duke University and a sub-specialty fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an alumnus of the Fogarty International Center’s postdoctoral fellowship program, focusing on global oncology, supported by the National Institutes of Health and the AIDS Malignancy Consortium Fellowship.
