Clarissa Durand-Rougely

Moral Distress, Shared Decision Making and the Ethics Committee

Bio:

Clarissa Durand-Rougely was born and raised on the island of Dominica, a small island situated in the Caribbean region. The strong sense of community associated with village life, and interdependence for survival laid the foundation for her passion for serving others. Her academic journey to medicine took a scenic route that began at Houston Community College, and culminated as an international medical graduate from University of Health and Science Medical school in St. Kitts. Prior to attending medical school, she conducted breast cancer research at the University of Colorado Anschutz medical campus, with a focus in young women’s breast cancer. She joins the UNC family after completion of an Internal medicine residency at Unity Health in Searcy, Arkansas where she served as chief resident, and was awarded resident of the year. Clarissa believes that Palliative care is a fitted branch of medicine to help address health inequities, while contributing to repairing the broken trust between medicine and minority populations. In her spare time, she enjoys tending to her herb garden and culinary adventures.
