One of the Many Carolina Wrens Enjoying the Spring Weather

Dear UNC Lineberger Cancer Network Friend,

It is wonderful to hear the joyful sounds of spring. The little Carolina wren (above) is one of the many birds filling the air with song. Things at the UNC Lineberger Cancer Network are busy, as always, and I am happy to share some of our recent news.

I want to begin by saying that I am extremely pleased to announce that Aaron Schmidt will be joining the UNC Lineberger Cancer Network team, effective next Monday, in the role of Technology Support Technician. This is a new and much-needed role for our organization, and we are thrilled to have Aaron on board. Please stay tuned for Mary King’s interview with Aaron in the May issue of Behind the Scenes.

I am also very happy to say that we have now signed a contract for the use of a new platform for health education (LMS- learning management system) called EthosCE. This is the same product used by many hospitals, universities, and medical schools throughout the country. We are hard at work preparing to implement EthosCE in the coming months. Please stay tuned for details on pending changes. We promise to make this process as seamless as possible.

Finally, we are thrilled to play a role in helping to support the Oncology APP Grand Rounds series that will be debuting in May under the leadership of Tammy Triglianos, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP. Please see Mary King’s article for details on this compelling new program.

We have two oncology lectures planned for you this month:

On Wednesday, April 14th at noon is our Patient-Centered Care lecture (CNE, ASRT, & ACPE credit) with Carly Bailey, MA and Brianna Castrogivanni, MS, RCEP MD. It is titled Exercise in Patients with Cancer. Please visit  https://unclineberger.org/unclcn/event/04142021/ to learn more and register. Like all our lectures, it is free and open to all.

Our Research to Practice lecture (CME, CNE, ASRT, & ACPE credit) on April 28th is titled Genitourinary Oncology Update 2021. We are looking forward to having Matthew I. Milowsky, MD join us for annual updates on genitourinary cancers. Please see https://unclineberger.org/unclcn/event/04282021/ to register.

Wishing you strength and fortitude in these challenging times,

Tim
