Dear UNC Lineberger Cancer Network Friend,

I hope that February finds you well. As always, I feel incredibly fortunate to work with my phenomenal colleagues at the UNC Lineberger Cancer Network. It truly amazes me how much this team accomplishes, from state-wide lectures to our many partnerships, to technical support for twenty separate multidisciplinary tumor boards and so much more. We hope that we are providing you with the resources and support that you need. As always, we welcome your questions and suggestions.

On the home front, there has been an unexpected challenge. Our seven-year-old Vizsla, Lily, unexpectedly went blind within several days. The cause is a condition called SARDS (sudden acquired retinal degeneration syndrome) which causes rapid and irreversible blindness. This took our family completely by surprise. Fortunately, we have the outstanding NC State Veterinary Hospital not far away, and their ophthalmology group was able to quickly and decisively diagnose the condition. Lily has been a real trooper, quickly learning to adapt to her loss of sight. It is incredible to me how well she navigates the house and fenced yard. She definitely bumps into things from time to time but maintains her confidence and patience. I look forward to providing her with all the support that she needs in the years ahead.
