John Norton

The Carlson Family Foundation supports UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center's research in leukemia and multiple myeloma. Foundation member John Norton was just 35 when he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. His wife, their two daughters, and his mother moved to Seattle in 1995 so he could have a bone marrow transplant at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He was fortunate to have two siblings who were perfect matches for the transplant. Then, three years ago, his brother Tom tragically died from multiple myeloma.

Although John and his family have benefited from all the hard work and research from institutions like UNC Lineberger; they have also suffered a loss from a lack of efficacious treatment options available. They have witnessed the incredible advances made in 12 years and know how important it is that this research continues. They are proud to be affiliated with UNC Lineberger and believe that they can and will make a difference in the lives of North Carolinians and beyond.
