Dannielle Engle, PhD, Assistant Professor, Salk Institute

Dr. Engle completed her PhD research at the University of California, San Diego, with Dr. Geoff Wahl. She then completed her postdoctoral training with Dr. David Tuveson, initially at Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, and later at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In 2019, Dr. Engle joined the Salk Institute for Biological Sciences as an Assistant Professor. Her research focuses on understanding how CA19-9, once considered only as a correlative biomarker, functions as a cancer driver to cause pancreatic inflammation, accelerate pancreatic tumor development, and increase the aggressive nature of this disease. She is the recipient of an NCI Career Transition K99/R00 Award and the Lustgarten Foundation/AACR Ruth Bader Ginsburg Award.
