As escalating drug costs take up a larger and larger portion of total cost of care for patients with cancer, it is becoming harder for oncology practices to achieve savings in value based payment models. As an academic center an early adopter of costly immunotherapies, it was somewhat unexpected when Yale achieved significant savings in CMS’ Oncology Care Model. This study explores the impact of clinical trial participation on pharmaceutical cost and performance in the oncology care model.
