Our Aims

  • Aim 1. Estimate tobacco use transition probabilities by race/ethnicity and poverty status, focusing on the prevalence and effects of cigar use on initiation, cessation, and dual/poly use of tobacco products.
  • Aim 2. Synthesize empirical and experiential evidence about flavored cigar bans in the US and abroad, including how contextual factors (e.g., enforcement, new products on the market) affect the ban’s impact.
  • Aim 3. Simulate multiple post-ban scenarios to forecast possible impacts of the proposed federal flavored cigar ban on tobacco use, population health, and health disparities.
