Who Participates in Population-Based, Young Adult Cancer Survivor Studies?
Results from the FUCHSIA Women’s Study

Population-based cancer registries are valuable resources for recruiting young adult cancer survivors into studies that collect information not available in medical records. But, who agrees to participate in these studies, and do they differ from those who are eligible to participate? Are potential participants lost because of incorrect contact information, refusal, or other reasons? Please join us for the discussion.

Penelope Howards, PhD, is a reproductive epidemiologist and associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. Her past research has focused on women’s health, including menstrual cycle function, fertility, and miscarriage. She also enjoys exploring how to address sources of bias that arise in applied studies. Through her current research, Dr. Howards hopes to address questions about the effects of different treatments on the reproductive health of women who have been diagnosed with cancer and women with chronic conditions, including lupus and sickle cell disease.
