The opioid crisis continues to take a devastating toll on our communities across NC. In North Carolina, the number of drug overdose deaths increased by nearly 800% between 1999 and 2016. UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer will be bringing providers from across the state together for our 10th Annual Coping with Cancer Symposium on Saturday, October 27th at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, NC. Judith Paice, PhD, RN, Director of the Cancer Pain Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL will kick off our conference highlighting the need to ensure cancer patients have the ability to receive the medications they need. Other UNC LCCC presenters will share pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches. There will be an award winning performance from Marie Garlock and her Flipping Cancer team that will ensure the story and voice of the patient is not forgotten. This will be a symposium that physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals in family medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, pulmonary, geriatrics, palliative care, psychology, pharmacy, social work, pastoral care and hospice will not want to miss.
