Catherine Habashy, MD
Palliative Care in Pediatric Oncology: Reflections of an Outsider Turned Insider
Catherine Habashy, MD MPH, is a pediatric oncologist and palliative care physician at the University of North Carolina. She completed her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Kentucky and her fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the University of Tennessee. During her fellowship training at St Jude Children’s Hospital, she witnessed beautiful palliative care provided by primary oncologists and came to appreciate the important role of primary palliative care in oncology. Much to her now-husband’s dismay, she returned to fellowship training again in 2019 and completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at the University of North Carolina. She lives in Durham with her husband Eric, who is still anxious about her doing more schooling, and her son, Miles, who has made her work much harder than it used to be.
The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
