CCSP/Palliative Care Grand Rounds

 

Welcome to CCSP/Palliative Care Grand Rounds

The Palliative Care and Comprehensive Cancer Support Programs (CCSP) co-organize weekly presentations on the care of seriously ill patients and their families, including individuals living with cancer, relevant to interdisciplinary clinicians. Individual topics address pain and symptom management, communication approaches with patients and families, strategies to facilitate coping and support, quality improvement and research in these disciplines.

Heather Boykin

The Intersection of Chronic Kidney Disease and Palliative Care

 

Bio:

Heather Boykin is a member of the inpatient palliative care consult team at UNC Healthcare. Heather is an alumni of UNC Chapel Hill where she completed her Master of Science in Nursing as well as her Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Her doctoral project work included the evaluation of a treatment options intervention for patients with late-stage CKD nearing ESRD and its potential to reduce tunneled dialysis catheter placement. Prior to joining the palliative care team at UNC, Heather worked as a nephrology nurse practitioner, nurse educator in the pharmaceutical industry and clinical research coordinator. Her clinical interests include early palliative care involvement in renal disease populations. Heather is a co-director of the Kidney Palliative Care Clinic at UNC.
