To meaningfully engage the community in UNC Lineberger cancer research, clinical care and programmatic efforts to better understand and serve the population’s needs.

Our Vision


To develop and sustain a community that actively partners with UNC Lineberger to reduce the burden of cancer and eliminate cancer disparities in North Carolina and beyond.

2022-23 COE Action Plan

  • Conduct community health assets & needs assessments
  • Synthesize COE-related information for UNC Lineberger reports
  • Catalyze effort regarding cancer in American Indians (SAICEP)
  • Train patient advocates on working with researchers
  • Train T32’s and others on how to work with community (PEER)
  • Train communities on using evidence-based practices (P30)
  • Actively promote/co-sponsor training regarding CBPR for researchers and community
  • Respond to technical assistance requests from researchers, staff, other centers
  • Support HBCU, community college and Cancer Network lecture series
  • Design, populate and strategically use the Salesforce relational database
  • Coordinate UNC Lineberger Community Advisory Board
  • Develop, maintain infrastructure to support patient and community engaged research
  • Increase awareness regarding outreach/engagement and COE Office across Cancer Center
  • Network and collaborate with other COE groups
  • Collaboratively increase awareness of Cancer Center with external audiences
  • Support Patient And Researcher Together (PART) initiative
  • Support cancer prevention and control efforts at Ft. Bragg
  • Support expansion of Carolina Cancer Screening Initiative screening services
  • Increase access to clinical trials for underrepresented individuals
  • Create and launch community activities strategy
  • Support and increase collaboration between patient navigation efforts
  • Implement COE Community Pilot Grant Program (including P30 funds)
  • Support targeted RFA’s for COE and catchment areas

  • Support the UNC Linberger Equity Council’s efforts to infuse DEI into 6 priority areas
  • Support expansion of cancer health disparities research and training infrastructure
  • Develop COE strategy to support UNCHCS affiliate sites
