Four scenes showing people engaging in lab research or clinic care. The people in the photos are from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.

We will engage those whom we employ, train, treat and serve.

We will listen. We will act.

Addressing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

UNC Lineberger is identifying ways to incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion principles into six critical areas at the cancer center:

Patient & Clinical Care

Accrual to Clinical Trials

Recruitment & Retention

Education, Training & Onboarding

Culture & Climate

Enhancing Research with an Equity Lens

UNC Lineberger is committed to providing an environment that is welcoming, inclusive and equitable.

To help us honor this commitment, we must raise awareness about – and then work to eliminate – systems and barriers. Many of us believe this has to start (but not finish) with listening and hopefully understanding the lived experience of those with diverse backgrounds.

We all have an important role in carrying out the cancer center’s mission.

This includes helping to establish and foster an environment that enables each of us to contribute to our fullest potential.

—Shelley Earp, MD, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Director

Establishing the Equity Council

The Executive Core of the Equity Council was formed as part of Phase 1 to address diversity, equity and inclusion at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

As part of Phase 1, individuals may nominate themselves or a colleague to be part of the full Equity Council.

In Phase 2, the Equity Council will establish several subcommittees charged with implementation and accountability.
