I received my BS/MS in Biochemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Romania.
As lab manager I oversee the day to day operations of the lab and the EM core facility that serves other UNC groups. I work on various projects, usually involving DNA-protein interactions, DNA replication, or telomere biology. Alongside biochemical and molecular biology assays, I use a number of EM techniques to do single molecule studies which shed a unique perspective on these interactions. I am also involved in many intramural and external collaborations with groups from all over the world, whose projects fit our interests, and whose expertise and knowledge, usually very different than ours, add an element of intellectual stimulation and engagement to my work.
