UNCLCN Team Members Volunteering at Carolina Community Garden

Dear UNC Lineberger Cancer Network Friend,

Happy June! Here in the Triangle, we are dealing with a haze in the air from fires raging in Canada, and feeling compassion for millions experiencing conditions that are much worse in New York, and other areas north of our state.

This month’s photo is from our recent volunteer activity with the Carolina Community Garden. Nadja, Oliver, Patrick, and I were thankful for the opportunity to help out with composting, weeding, planting, and more. Details on the organization may be found here.

Thank you to all of those who have already filled out our annual survey to help us select lectures in 2024! If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes today to complete our annual survey.

Please join us in celebrating June as Pride Month, dedicated to a celebration of the celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. I would like to highlight two of our related lectures:

We are also looking forward to celebrating Juneteenth on June 19th,  and National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week on June 15th – 21st.  Please read our June blog post to learn more about the National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week and upcoming events.

In closing, I need to share some very sad news. We learned about the heartbreaking death of our colleague, Vaughn Booker who passed on May 2nd. I have had the good fortune of collaborating with Vaughn for years now. He has provided phenomenal support for UNC classroom technical needs, and specifically for Zoom and Panopto. Vaugh has been incredibly helpful to our team over the years, providing friendly, thoughtful, and timely support which has been vital to us in providing resources and support to our customers. Vaughn will be dearly missed. Details regarding Vaughn’s life and the upcoming service may be found here.
