Ruby-throated Hummingbird with Mexican Sunflower

Dear UNC Lineberger Cancer Network Friend,

After a long, hot summer, it has been wonderful to enjoy the falling temperatures and welcome in October. The female hummingbird above was likely filling up for her long trip to Mexico or Central America. She seemed to be everywhere in the yard on Saturday, but by Sunday there was no sign of her, leading me to assume that she had begun her journey south.

The UNC Lineberger Cancer Network team continues to be very busy, getting a variety of fall lectures (see below) ready, while also preparing for 2024. We are looking forward to being able to start producing studio lectures once again, likely starting with this month’s APP series. While we have been thankful for the technology that has allowed us to present lectures from homes and offices, there is something very rewarding about sitting down with our presenters face-to-face, and we look forward to returning to this format in the months ahead.

I want to draw your attention to a visual summary of our 2022-2023 accomplishments. I am immensely proud of the work done by our group, in partnership with our parent organization, and our collaborators across North Carolina. Jon Powell has worked with our team to meticulously compile data from the past fiscal year, and Andrew Dodgson has put this into a beautifully detailed 2022-2023 Annual Report infographic. I hope that you will take a couple of minutes to review this document, as a believe it provides a very compelling “snapshot” of much of the important we that we are so privileged to do.
