Lauren Lowe UNCLCN Intern
Lauren Lowe

Meet Lauren Lowe, UNCLCN’s very first intern!

Lauren is a rising senior at UNC-Chapel Hill and we are very excited to welcome her to the team. Lauren will be helping our team with multiple projects including our current Outreach Project. We interviewed Lauren to learn more about her and what she is looking forward to during her time with the team.

Can you tell us a little bit about your background?

I was born and raised in Greensboro, NC and I am a rising senior at UNC majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish for the medical professions and Chemistry.

What led you to choose UNC-Chapel Hill?

My family has always been Carolina fans and we love basketball. I attended Eric Montross Father’s Day weekend basketball camp for 5 years growing up and this exposed me to the greatness of UNC, especially the remarkable healthcare system and healthcare advances being made here. Both of my older siblings ended up at UNC and each time we visited them, I loved it more. Ultimately, coming to UNC felt meant to be and at the end of the day, it’s impossible to compete with the academic rigor, athletic excellence, and welcoming community that UNC offers.

What attracted you to the UNCLCN Team?

I originally spoke with Tim through the Heels Engage platform and he shared all about UNCLCN with me. It was evident to me that the UNCLCN Team was very welcoming and fostered a great learning environment. I knew instantly it was something I wanted to be a part of!

What are you looking forward to the most at UNCLCN?

I am most excited to learn from this awesome team and to be part of a team doing such important work. It is evident to me that all opinions and voices matter here, which has given me confidence, and challenged me in the best way to share my own ideas. Medical education is essential to providing the best patient care and I have already learned about so many things that I never knew existed.

What are some things you would like to bring to the UNCLCN team?

I am excited to bring a new perspective and my curiosity to the team! I am very outgoing and hope to contribute to the sense of community while offering my background in science to the team.

What do you plan to pursue after graduation? Long-term goals?

I am currently studying for the MCAT and will be applying to medical school next spring. This prepares me to have a gap year before hopefully going to medical school. I am not sure what my gap year will consist of yet, but I hope to travel some before settling into a pre-health job that will provide me valuable exposure to the medical field.

How will this internship prepare you for your future goals?

This internship will help me to develop professional competencies, practice communication, and written skills while allowing me to discover and hone my talents and abilities in the workplace. It will also teach me how to effectively work with a team in a professional setting, a quality that is essential to healthcare.

What hobbies do you have?

My favorite things to do are yoga, reading, word games, playing tennis and pickleball, and being outside with friends and my dogs!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

If I could have any superpower, I would choose to be able to fly. I love to travel and always find myself trying to be in multiple places at the same time (I tend to overfill my schedule). The ability to fly would allow me to visit so many more places in the world and flying seems so peaceful!

Thank you, Lauren, and we are so excited to have you on the team!
