Bryson Mittman, right, sits with his grandfather, Gilbert Casterlow, Jr., PhD. For the past two years, Bryson decided that instead of birthday presents, he wanted people to donate to UNC Lineberger to help people like his grandfather.

“My parents taught me that it’s better to give than to receive, so I thought it would be nice to do something for someone else on my birthday.”

—Bryson Mittman

Beginning in 2017, in lieu of gifts for his birthday, Bryson Mittman has asked for donations to UNC Lineberger and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and this year is no different.

Bryson’s grandfather was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2004 and passed away in December 2020. Helping others and giving to those in need are two (of many) lessons that Bryson remembers from his grandfather, and in true “Bryson fashion” he’s committed to exceeding donations each year!

Please consider making a gift in memory of Bryson’s grandfather.

Thank you for your support of UNC Lineberger.
