Area of Interest

Our group is interested in how the enteric microbiota regulates intestinal epithelial function in response to inflammation and injury. We are particularly interested in the impact of the microbiota on small intestinal Paneth cells and stem cells. It is our hope that elucidating these mechanisms will drive discovery of novel therapeutic strategies to modulate intestinal epithelial biology via manipulation of the intestinal microbiome. This has the potential to impact a range of gastrointestinal disorders, from inflammatory bowel diseases to GI cancers.
