Dr. Atkins is an ACVP-boarded veterinary pathologist specializing in AI-driven digital pathology image analysis, science communication, and models of human disease. She directs veterinary residents in comparative anatomic pathology through several UNC and NC State-based anatomic veterinary pathology training programs. Dr. Atkins’ research is primarily collaborative and has spanned many topics, including skin cancer, papillomavirus-induced cervical cancer, tobacco smoke carcinogenesis, and artificial organ pre-clinical testing. Her independent research interests include post-professional education. In her free time, Dr. Atkins is the chief audio editor for “A Conversation in Veterinary Pathology – The A.C.V.P. Podcast,” the official podcast of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
