Area of Interest
My research area of interest has been intertwined with directing Comprehensive Cancer shared resources that have provided investigators access to genomic and transcriptomic profiling as part of their research as well as being engaged as an investigator on grants studying cancer, cardiovascular, radiation exposure and the microbiome.
In my role as a director of shared resources my focus was supporting researchers through strategic planning, management, developing and controlling research budgets, data entry, analysis, ensured compliance with standard operating procedures with good laboratory practice guidelines and communicated with researchers about study design, progress and concerns. I developed along with Duke colleagues a laboratory information management system for tracking all metrics for sample submission through distribution of data in an Oracle database. In support of the shared resources, I obtained equipment grants and infrastructure grants. As a result of the services developed in the shared resources, I was a co-founder in the development of a start-up company, Expression Analysis, that provided genomic and transcriptomic services. In 2012 it was acquired by Quintiles and then Quest, it is recently known as Q2 Solutions.
My current role as the assistant director of the UNC Lineberger shared resources and operations includes developing strategic financial planning and policies for reviewing scientific and operational status of shared resources and providing support for shared resource directors and staff.
