UNC Lineberger staff held a craft fair in October to raise money for the Where the Need is Greatest Fund, which supports research and clinical initiatives at the cancer center.

The organizer of the event, Jason Piper, an administrative support associate at UNC Lineberger, said the event started after others noticed his talent in creating handmade crafts.

“We decided that a craft fair would be a fun way to get staff involved in something that they enjoyed doing for a great cause. We even had some first-time crafters donate items. There was a great mix of items from all different types of crafts,” Piper added.

UNC Lineberger staff who made or donated handmade items to the craft fair included Elizabeth Alioto, Susan Boyle, Allaura Cone, Victoria Doyle, Jamie Ede, Mitzi Flagler, Lauren Galentine, Jessica Greenwood, Sarah Howard, Diana Lackey, Stephanie Ladd, Ana Salas, Yazmin Sanchez, Susie Smith, Melody Snow, Dean Staley, and Peggy Voyce.

Volunteers who helped coordinate and staff the event included Zoe Atkinson, Chassidy Dixon, Diana Lackey, Melissa Mack, Tony Lindsey, Yazmin Sanchez, Leslie Schreiner, Susie Smith, Dean Staley, Jonathan Stroud, and students from the Carolina Cancer Association.

The three-day event raised more than $1,000.
