It is estimated that over 50 percent of cancer patients will experience pain associated with their diagnosis, many of whom will require opioid therapy. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, opioids, prescription and illicit, are the main driver of drug overdose deaths in the US. Between 2014-2015, there was a 14.5 percent increase in drug overdose death rates in North Carolina. This lecture will discuss management of pain in an oncology setting while considering risk factors for opioid abuse and addiction. RN and Allied Health lectures offer CNE and ASRT continuing education credit (upon approval) for eligible participants. We invite anyone interested to view our lectures. Pedal for Peds

Pedal for Peds is a day of cycling and celebration to bring awareness of childhood cancers and benign blood diseases by raising funds to support research that will improve patient outcomes. Participants can bike up to 50 miles on the beautiful American Tobacco Trail, or take part in hourly spin classes and yoga sessions. The event benefits the Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology at UNC Hospitals.
