UNC Lineberger’s Andrew Z. Wang, MD, an associate professor in the UNC School of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology, was corresponding author of a paper published in Advanced Science.
The study reported on the development of a “nanopatch” to prevent postsurgical adhesion, which is when scar tissue joins two different tissues after surgery. They reported that this biologically-targeted photocrosslinkable nanopatch, or pCNP, can form a compact barrier over surfaces with exposed collagen. In animal models, they also showed that the nanopatch is highly effective and safe in preventing postsurgical adhesions.
