The American Cancer Society named UNC Lineberger’s Norman “Ned” Sharpless, MD, to its board of directors.
Sharpless, professor of cancer policy and innovation at the UNC School of Medicine, is the former director of the National Cancer Institute, 2017-2022, and acting commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2019. Prior to that, he served as the director of UNC Lineberger from 2014-2017.
Also joining the ACS board are Sean T. Farnham, a college basketball analyst with ESPN; Desirée G. Rogers, CEO of Black Opal Beauty, LLC; and Jaime Wesolowski, president and chief executive officer of Methodist Healthcare System of South Texas.
“It is an honor to welcome these four new distinguished members to the board of directors, each of whom brings a wealth of knowledge, talent and skilled leadership that will help us fulfill the mission of the American Cancer Society,” said ACS Board Chair Brian Marlow. “We are grateful for their commitment and look forward to working together to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families.”
