CHAPEL HILL, NC – On November 3, 2010, Lisa Carey, MD, was honored by the YWCA of the Greater Triangle as one of 11 new members at the 2010 Academy of Women Awards. Membership in the Academy of Women is a distinguished honor, recognizing remarkable women who excel in their fields while embodying the YWCA mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. She was recognized in the Health and Human Services category.

Carey is associate professor of medicine, associate director of clinical science for UNC Lineberger and medical director of the UNC Breast Center.

“On this wonderful evening we honor area women for their courage and fearless leadership,” said Folami Bandele, executive director, YWCA of the Greater Triangle. “Each woman inducted tonight possesses exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to community service. We are inspired by these role models and recognize them for their dedication to empowering so many others in our community.”
