Der awarded NCI grant to pursue drug discovery

Channing J. Der, PhD, UNC Lineberger member and Kenan Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the UNC School of Medicine, was awarded a five-year NIH R01 grant entitled "Biological Activity of RAS Oncogenes". This grant will support his studies to pursue drug discovery for novel was to target "undruggable" KRAS by targeting instead the MYC oncogene. This project includes collaborators from the Lineberger, including Drs. Chad Pecot, Adrienne Cox and Lee Graves.

BYU’s Coach Dave Rose recalls cancer journey at Roy Williams’ Fast Break Against Cancer

Tar Heel basketball Coach Roy Williams' 2015 "Fast Break Against Cancer" breakfast fundraiser featured Brigham Young University Men's Basketball Head Coach Dave Rose - also a pancreatic cancer survivor - as its keynote speaker. Now in it's 11th year, Fast Break Against Cancer has surpassed the $2 million mark for cancer research and treatment at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

DeSimone receives $250,000 Kabiller Prize in Nanoscience and Nanomedicine

Joseph M. DeSimone, Chancellor’s Eminent Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been named the recipient of the inaugural $250,000 Kabiller Prize in Nanoscience and Nanomedicine for his invention and use of PRINT, a breakthrough technology that has been used to make advances toward the development of new cancer treatments, inhalable therapeutics and next generation vaccines for malaria, pneumonia and dengue.
