Endometrial Cancer Center of Excellence

The UNC Lineberger Endometrial Cancer Center of Excellence brings together an outstanding group of researchers, clinicians and staff to provide excellent multidisciplinary patient care and generate research discoveries that can be translated into new, more effective approaches and ultimately, cures for endometrial cancer.

UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, the cancer center for the people of North Carolina, has established the Endometrial Cancer Center of Excellence to bring together cancer center faculty with a broad range of expertise to focus on endometrial cancer, the fourth most common cancer in women in the United States and the only major cancer type that is increasing in both frequency and mortality.

The center will serve as a national resource for patients and their loved ones who seek the latest and most reliable information about endometrial cancer research, clinical advances and community resources.

Headshot of Vickie Bae-Jump

“Endometrial cancer the only major cancer type that is increasing in both frequency and mortality, with limited treatment options due to being a long understudied cancer. In addition, endometrial cancer harbors one of the worse disparities in outcomes for Black women battling this disease. These two statistics are unacceptable; and thus, we are committed to reversing these statistics through a combination of state-of-the art, first-of-its kind research, innovative clinical trials and comprehensive clinical care as part of the Endometrial Cancer Center of Excellence. ”
– Victoria Bae-Jump, MD, PhD, director, Endometrial Cancer Center of Excellence

Research at the Endometrial Cancer Center of Excellence

  • We are focused on developing new treatment paradigms for endometrial cancer, a long understudied cancer.
  • We are committed to improving outcomes to address the alarming and rising disparities for Black endometrial cancer patients.
  • In September 2020, we opened a comprehensive, population-based approach to integrate endometrial cancer tumor biology, clinical factors and social determinants of health in relation to endometrial cancer outcomes. The Carolina Endometrial Cancer Study (CECS) is prospectively recruiting 1,000 newly-diagnosed endometrial cancer patients statewide in all 100 North Carolina counties.

“If we can [develop] a better understanding of why, disproportionately, Black women suffer from endometrial cancer and have worse outcomes, we will have made an important contribution.”
