Lisa A. Carey, MD, FASCO, was named a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology during its annual meeting in Chicago, May 31-June 4. The distinction recognizes ASCO members for their extraordinary volunteer service, dedication, and commitment to the organization, which represents nearly 45,000 oncology professionals who care for people living with cancer.

Carey, who is the Richardson and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer Distinguished Professor in Breast Cancer Research at UNC Lineberger and physician-in-chief of the N.C. Cancer Hospital, has served ASCO in a number of capacities, including as a member (2015-18) and chair (2017-18) of its nominating committee. She also was the subcommittee chair of the Professional Development Committee, track leader of the Cancer Education Committee, and a member of the Breast Cancer Consensus Panel as well as a member of the Journal of Clinical Oncology editorial board.
