Neuro-Oncology Program
The multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology Program at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center provides optimal clinical care for primary and secondary brain tumor patients.
Clinical Overview
Clinical interests of the division of neuro-oncology include the treatment of brain tumors (such as glioblastoma, astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, meningioma, medulloblastoma), metastatic central nervous system tumors (brain metastases, spinal cord metastases, spinal fluid or leptomeningeal metastases), and radiation necrosis.
Our Team
UNC Cancer Care and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center have assembled a team of expert specialists in the fields of neurosurgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, and endocrinology. Our focus is on providing our patients the best care that uses the latest advances driven by scientific and clinical discoveries. The Neuro-Oncology Division also has a highly active, laboratory-based as well as clinical research enterprise.
Our Approach
We use a multidisciplinary approach to ensure both efficiency in diagnosing and treating patients and development of an optimal treatment plan. Our program offers the most up-to-date advances in diagnostic tools, surgical techniques, and medical and radiation therapies and access to the latest clinical trials.
Our Research
The Neuro-Oncology Division is composed of both clinical and research arms.
The clinical arm is focused on providing:
- Diagnoses, treatment, and care of patients with tumors that impact the brain, spinal cord and patients with neurocutaneous syndromes
- Care of brain tumor survivors
The research arm aims to translate lab discoveries of researchers to treat primary brain tumors, secondary or metastatic brain tumors, cancer survivorship and cancer healthcare disparities.
