UNC Lineberger faculty members Ned Sharpless, MD, and Adam Zanation, MD, were honored for their achievements by Triangle Business Journal as 2012 Health Care Heroes.
The award honors individuals and organizations for putting innovation and compassion to work to improve the human condition. The honorees were recognized at an awards dinner on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Marriott City Center.
Sharpless was honored as “Innovator/Researcher” and Zanation was recognized as a “Rising Star.”
Sharpless is professor of medicine and associate director for translational research of UNC Lineberger. His award honors a person for a breakthrough in medical technology, research or delivery, expansive in scope so that it now, or could in the future, affect many people’s lives.
Zanation is an assistant professor of surgery in the UNC School of Medicine’s department of otolaryngology/head and neck surgery. His award honors a recent graduate or new hire that shows real promise in the fields of scientific research or in the practice of medicine with a demonstrable record of taking on challenging responsibilities, leadership abilities and scientific achievement.
